Rapper El Moreno Mexicano arrested over fatal drink-driving crash

Mexican rapper El Moreno Mexicano has been arrested following a car crash in Indianapolis over the weekend. The incident took place on September 20th and left one person dead.

The 26-year-old (real name Brayan Calleja) has been preliminarily charged with driving under the influence resulting in death, driving under the influence while endangering a person, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level over .08, and driving without a licence.

According to The Indianapolis Star, the accident took place at around 3am at the intersection of North East Street and East Ohio Street.

Police officers for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found Mexicano’s Dodge Charger involved in a crash with a GMC Yukon.

The driver of the other vehicle, 31-year-old Aaron Radford, was pronounced dead upon his arrival at Methodist Hospital.

Officers also witnessed the Charger hitting an apartment building. They claim Mexicano and a woman attempted to walk away from the scene, but were taken to the hospital.

Police claim the rapper had “bloodshot and glossy eyes” and a strong alcoholic smell in his breath. Mexicano initially refused a blood alcohol level test, but officers were granted a warrant.

Yahoo reports that Calleja told a translator he had been at a bar downtown and sped up after seeing a green light turn yellow.

In a statement, Marion County Prosecutor Rya Mears said, “In 2025, there is simply no excuse for anyone to drink and drive. With rideshares, designated drivers, and countless other safe alternatives, choosing to drive impaired is reckless and preventable— and the consequences are devastating.”

Mexicano has over 224,000 Instagram followers and 78,000 monthly Spotify listeners. His biggest songs include ‘El Niño Malo‘, which has over 6.4 million YouTube views, and ‘Soy El Diablo’, with 5.2 million views.
