Rakim to utilise DMX and Nipsey Hussle for new album
Paid In Full emcee Rakim has revealed that he will be releasing his first full-length solo album in 15 years that will feature an extensive range of exciting artists and even some late legends.
The project’s executive producer, Matthew ‘M80’ Markoff, took to Instagram to announce that the album, God’s Network: Reb7rth, will be released on July 26th. The LP’s debut single, ‘Rebirth,’ features West Coast lyricist Kurupt and Wu-Tang’s Masta Killa and will be released on June 21st.
God’s Network: Reb7rth will also see appearances from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Method Man, B.G., Kool G Rap, Canibus, Skyzoo, KXNG Crooked, Chino XL, 38 Spesh and Planet Asia. Deceased icons such as DMX, LA’s Nipsey Hussle and Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, who passed away in 2017, will also appear on the LP.
Taking to social media, Matthew ‘M80’ Markof wrote, “When you hear the INSANITY we’re cooking up for July 26th, you’ll salute to just like the G.O.D @thegodrakim.” He continued, “The 1st Ever FULLY PRODUCED project + Featuring RAKIM ALLAH!”
God’s Network: Reb7rth will be Rakim’s first album since his 2009 project, The Seventh Seal. Following this, the emcee took a 14-year hiatus from music. Rakim and Eric B have been behind the scenes since the turn of the millennium, and this year were snubbed again concerning induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
In a statement they released, the duo wrote, “Congratulations to the diverse group of artists inducted into the Rock Hall this year. Seeing Tribe and Mary on the list besides Cher, Ozzy, Kool and the Gang and all of the other icons shows how inclusive the institution has become. Keep voting … we’ll join you soon!”
Earlier this year, the duo cancelled a European tour they had promised fans, and the head of the promotion company that helped organise the trek quickly came out to castigate the duo, telling his followers, “That is pure bullshit. Rakim just didn’t feel like going, and manager tells us he tried to convince him since January, even know he cancelled in 2022 due to corona, 2023 due to Hip Hop 50 and didn’t [give] any proper excuse this time. Rakim destroys his legacy in Europe now.”
