Raekwon’s scary interaction with Jackass star Steve-O
Raekwon’s public-facing attitude has always been one of humility, agreeableness, and a generally good vibe. However, in 2006 he had a fairly outrageous interaction with Jackass star Steve-O.
At that year’s Rock The Bells Festival, Steve-O pulled a stunt during an Ol’ Dirty Bastard tribute performance. That said, last year, the Jackass star took to social media to reflect on the scary run-in.
While the Wu-Tang Clan were paying tribute to Ol’ Dirty Bastard alongside the late rapper’s mother, Steve-O got completely naked onstage and did a backflip on stage. Unsurprisingly, this really angered Raekwon.
According to Steve-O, he was introduced to ODB’s mother before grabbing the mic and introducing himself to the festival crowd. While he was naked, in a shocking act of disrespect meant to be humour, Steve-O flicked his penis back and forth, then performed a backflip.
The Clan were performing Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s 1995 anthem ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya’ when Steve-O decided to bring some Jackass humour into the tribute. After his act, Raekwon cut the music.
Speaking about what happened next, Steve-O told his followers, “He grabs me by my neck and drags me to the front of the stage.” He then recalled what the emcee told him, recounting, “[He said] I didn’t appreciate that, and I’m gonna tell you right now, you gonna apologise or I’m gonna knock you out in front of all these people. I’m not playing straight up. That was disrespectful. I’m ready to fuck you up, so you better apologise right now, and I’m going to chill, straight up.”
Steve-O detailed how, after delivering an apology to ODB’s mother, he ran off the stage, reflecting, “After that, I was allowed to go, and security told us that I really should go because I was definitely not safe. Of course, I was totally humiliated by the experience, and ever since then, I’ve done everything I can to express that I meant no disrespect.”
Steve-O said he spoke to Method Man and RZA, who understood why he did the stunt from an artist’s perspective. However, he revealed that to this day, Raekwon still refuses to speak to him.
The Jackass star signed off his video, stating, “Raekwon is not interested in talking to me about it. If I ever do get the chance to meet Raekwon, I hope that we can be cool. But if he makes me apologize again, I absolutely will very quickly, and Wu-Tang forever.”
