Quavo and Kamala Harris set to discuss gun violence

Former Migos member Quavo (real name Quavious Marshall) is set to speak with US Vice President Kamala Harris about gun violence at the inaugural Rocket Foundation Summit in Atlanta later this month.

The Rocket Foundation was founded after the death of the late Migos member Takeoff in 2022, who got shot outside a bowling alley in Houston. The summit will take place on June 18th, and people will commemorate him and celebrate what would have been his 30th birthday.

Variety magazine reports that Marshall and Harris will discuss the methods and approaches that must be taken to decrease gun violence and protect communities.” Particularly in African-American neighbourhoods.

This isn’t the first time that Harris has shown her dedication to reducing gun violence in some of the US’ major cities. Last year, Quavo, alongside his mom and Takeoff’s mother, was invited to the White House to meet the Vice President and discuss solutions to the ongoing issue that took Takeoff’s life.

Following the 2023 meeting with Harris, Marshall spoke to the Associated Press (AP), telling them, “I feel like your calling comes at the least expected times. You don’t think nothing is going to happen. I need to step up to the plate and hit a home run.”

He added, “I have to do something about it so it won’t happen to the masses — especially in our culture. I don’t want this to happen to the next person. I want to knock down these percentages. We need to do better with the control of guns.”

Last year, after Quavo’s visit to the White House, Harris posted on Instagram a photo of her and Quavo sitting on a white sofa with the caption, “Thank you @quavohuncho, Edna, and Titania for using your voices to honour Takeoff’s legacy and call for action to prevent gun violence.”

While at The White House, Quavo also participated in a panel discussion alongside Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, Representative Lucy McBath, and Greg Jackson of the Community Justice Action Fund.
