Posthumous Nipsey Hussle album with unheard songs set to arrive this summer
The late Los Angeles legend Nipsey Hussle was a revered emcee. Hussle was born in the Crenshaw area of South LA and, since his untimely demise in 2019, has been hailed for the way he denounced gun violence in his music and crafted anthems to revive California hip-hop.
Musically, Hussle had an enormous impact on hip hop and, along with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, helped to re-invigorate the LA rap scene. That said, many are now excited as it has been announced that a new posthumous Nipsey Hussle album will arrive this summer.
The emcee’s brother, Blacc Sam, announced on February 26th during an appearance on Power 106’s Brown Bag Morning Show. While speaking to the hosts, Letty Peniche, Rosecrans Vic, and Doknow, Blacc unveiled that the album will be a collaborative project with South Central LA rapper Bino Rideaux. Moreover, he revealed that it was recorded before Nipsey was killed in 2019.
Opening up about the details of the project, Blacc Sam told the hosts, “If Hussle didn’t actually do the verse or work with the person or put together the blueprint for the project, we not doing it.” he continued, “He did something with Bino, and there’s a new project that we’re about to release. This was a project that he had with Bino that was pretty much like 80% finished.”
He added, “So the team kind of came in, got some unreleased verses and music that he had done with Bino and just tightened it up. It sounds amazing. It should be coming out around this summer. The team is real excited. We just finished going over all the stuff for the last three weeks with everybody.”
Blacc Sam went up to the Brown Bag Morning Show to promote his late brother’s Marathon brand as they opened up a new burger restaurant in his home city of Los Angeles. The vendor will be located on Melrose and Gardner and will open on March 1st. It is only a short distance from the late lyricist’s Marathon clothing store, outside which he was killed.
The restaurant’s dining room will feature images of the late rapper, and Saturday’s grand opening will see the first 100 customers eat for free. In a statement, the late rapper’s team wrote, “The Marathon team is excited to expand the brand into the restaurant industry here in LA.”
They continued, “When Nipsey birthed The Marathon (Brand), launching it with The Marathon mixtape in 2010, the goal was always to enterprise this into a full lifestyle brand — music, fashion, food/hospitality, and entertainment. This is another step towards reaching Hussle’s vision.”
Nipsey created his Marathon brand in 2010 and has been in the hands of his estate and family since 2019. The rapper’s killer, Eric Holder, recently attempted to appeal his 2022 conviction for the murder of Nipsey, but the motion was swiftly dismissed by the appeals court.
