Post Malone fan killed by flying debris while evacuating music festival

Post Malone was set to perform at the REDWEST music festival in Salt Lake City, Utah, last weekend. However, the festival was evacuated due to extreme weather, resulting in the death of a woman.

23-year-old Ava Ahlander lost her life after going to her car, located near 1055 W. North Temple, to shelter from the storm.

According to Fox 13 News, police said Ahlander left her vehicle as the wind blew a scaffolding board from an apartment building, falling 30 feet and striking the woman.

Paramedics attended the scene at around 5:15pm. She died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

In a statement, her family said, “Ava was an absolute delight of a human being. Everyone loved her. She was an avid concertgoer and had flown in from Seattle to go see Post Malone with her friends.”

A GoFundMe page was launched to raise money for burial costs and medical bills following her death. As of October 16th, $27,572 had been raised.

“We are heartbroken to share that Ava Ahlander tragically passed away this weekend following an accident near the Redwest Music Festival,” the page reads. “Ava was a beautiful soul whose kindness, warmth, and adventurous spirit touched everyone around her. Even in her passing, Ava continues to give the gift of life to others as an organ donor—a final act of generosity that truly reflects her caring nature and desire to help those in need.

They added, “Funds raised will be used to help with expenses related to a memorial celebration of life, burial costs, medical bills, and counseling services for those affected by this loss. Any remaining funds will be donated to a charity in Ava’s name, extending her legacy of compassion.”

Malone was headlining the country festival on October 11th alongside other big names, Kacey Musgraves and Noah Kahan.
