Pop Smoke’s family to open Brooklyn coffee shop in his memory

A coffee shop is opening in memory of Pop Smoke, who died in 2020.

The Brooklyn rapper was shot and killed in Los Angeles at the age of 20, but his family are determined to keep his legacy alive.

Last week, his brother, Obasi Jackson, announced that a coffee shop called Pop’s Place would be opening in the Canarsie neighbourhood of Brooklyn.

“Pop’s Place is opening soon in Canarsie,” he wrote. “We’re looking for experienced baristas ready to be part of something special. Serious inquiries only. DM @shootforthestarsfdn @abmilknhoney @iamjazsmith to apply.”

As of now, the exact location of Pop’s Place is unclear, with no details surrounding an opening date.

Pop Smoke’s music has continued to arrive following his death. In July 2020, his debut album, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, was released posthumously on Republic Records.

It reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart with features from Quavo, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Swae Lee, Future, Rowdy Rebel, 50 Cent, Roddy Ricch, Tyga, Lil Tjay, and more.

Then, in 2021, he topped the Billboard 200 once again with his second studio album, Faith, with appearances from Kanye West, Pusha T, Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Future, Chris Brown, Pharrell, Kid Cudi, Quavo, Kodak Black, and more.

Pop spoke passionately about Brooklyn and New York in general. During an interview with XXL, he once said, “We finna take over. We finna take over everything. I ain’t gon’ lie, it’s about to go back to everybody want to come to New York.”

He continued, “New York got the baddest females, you know what I’m saying? But New York finna go back to that spot where it’s like everybody, like, it’s like the Mecca.”
