Police claim Baton Rouge rapper’s shooting death was a targeted attack

Baton Rouge rapper Cleezy5 was shot dead this week, with police claiming it was a targeted attack.

The 46-year-old (real name West Clark) was found dead outside a gym in Louisiana on April 29th.

Following the shooting, Baton Rouge Public Information Officer Lt L’Jean McKneely stated that the incident was targeted.

“It was a targeted attack,” he said. “The victim was out there working out, we know those two suspects walked up and fired upon the victim multiple times, killing him at the scene.”

He added, “We know it was two persons they walked up, they were masked, had masks on their face prior to doing the shooting, while doing the shooting. We know it was a vehicle somewhere close that they got into.”

Cleezy5 lost his life at around 12:15pm in the car park of Gain God Fitness on Greenwell Springs Road.

McKneely stated, “We see and feel that there is some association involving certain groups here in Baton Rouge but it’s nothing we can openly say at this time because it is an ongoing investigation. We know there’s a lot of social media chatter about this particular shooting, and we’re asking if anybody knows anything, please call us.”

The rapper served as the CEO of Fredo Bang’s TBG collective, also known as Top Boy Gorilla. Fredo paid tribute in a statement to WAFB.

“West was one of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet,” he said. “He would do anything for the people he loved. He helped countless people around Baton Rouge – single mothers, promoters, and radio. Anyone who needed him, he was there. Without him, me and Gee Money’s music – and a few more artists’ – would never have reached as far as it has.”
