Police arrest child over murder of rapper stepdad in Brooklyn

A 16-year-old accused of killing his rapper stepdad has been arrested following his murder earlier this month.

42-year-old Sinthoro Upper (real name Jamel Davis) lost his life on April 12th at his apartment in Brooklyn, New York City.

According to the New York Daily News, the teenager was found in the Bronx on April 21st, nine days after Sinthoro’s death.

The boy is accused of shooting his stepfather in an argument over him smoking weed around his pregnant mother.

The incident occurred at around 10:50am in NYCHA’s Walt Whitman Houses on Cumberland Walk, near Carlton Ave in Fort Greene.

Sinthoro was reportedly expecting a child with his stepson’s mother and didn’t want the unborn baby exposed to secondhand smoke.

In a briefing at the police headquarters, New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said, “She didn’t want the baby to be affected by the smoke. So mom first texts her son and tells him to stop smoking weed. That turns into a verbal dispute.”

Shortly after, Sinthoro allegedly got involved, leading to an argument and a physical fight. Kenny said, “[The teen] walks back to the bedroom, grabs a shoebox, [pulls a gun] and shoots [Sinthoro] two times, once in the chest, once in the arm.”

Police officers tracked him down to E 165th St and took him into custody. “He had a backpack with all his belongings in it,” Kenny said. “And he looks very disheveled, like he’s been living out on the street since the incident.”

Sinthoro is best known for his viral song ‘Slidin’, which was co-signed by big names such as 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Rich The Kid, and Fredro Starr.
