Essential Mixtape: The 25 best G-Unit tracks

Former G-Unit member 50 Cent is one of the most well-known hip hop artists on the planet. Beyond his career as a rapper, he has enjoyed a fruitful career as a producer, filmmaker, and actor, making him a rapper turned media mogul.

However, before his transition into the world of movies, 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) was the kingpin of his crew G-unit, which topped the hip hop charts during the early 2000s. With hit after hit, the crew were unstoppable and arguably the most potent crew of the mid-2000s.

Following his 2003 breakout album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’, produced by Dr Dre and Eminem, Jackson was pretty much untouchable. Along with the likes of Kanye West and Jay-Z, 50 Cent was breaking records and became a mainstay on radio throughout the ’00s.

After cementing himself as a key influence in hip hop, in 2003, 50 Cent was afforded his own record label under Interscope: G-Unit Records. Many of his signings were members of his pre-existing crew, G-Unit, which primarily consisted of underground rappers from the New York area.

Members of G-Unit included names such as, Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck and even Compton rapper, The Game. As a collective, they had a lot of influence in the hip hop world; although they rarely did posse cuts, they all saw success individually in their solo projects. 50 Cent and The Game were undoubtedly the most successful members of the crew with regard to career longevity. However, that’s not to say members such as Young Buck and Lloyd Banks didn’t have their own hits.

Below we have compiled 25 of the most essential G-Unit tracks from the New York crew’s heyday.
