Pete Rock discusses upcoming joint album with Common

New York producer and emcee Pete Rock has opened up about his upcoming collaborative album alongside the Chicago lyricist Common, who released his last project, A Beautiful Revolution (Pt. 2), in 2021.

Taking to Instagram, Rock shared an article concerning the project and explained to fans that the body of work will be of the highest quality and bound to bring excitement back into hip-hop.

On September 17th, after posting a screenshot of a HipHopDX article, Rock emphasised how special he thinks it’s going to be, writing, “You ever miss that feeling of a good release in hip hop?”

He continued, “Remember how exciting that felt??? We both excited as a mafugga [four laughing emojis, five musical note emojis, bicep-flex emoji]. I always feel like I got something to prove, but it’s just fun to me to make music. Competing to make good music with all the different personalities involved today just gotten dry. We love hip hop, and you will know just how much [ear emoji] stay tuned!!!”

Both Common and Pete Rock seem excited about this project, and, in an interview with Melber for MSNBC’s series The Beat, the Chicago rhymer explained his inspiration for getting back in the studio as he revealed, “I been listening to a lot of ’90s Hip Hop because I been creating a new project.”

He continued, “I’m working on a new album with Pete Rock, and just the energy of that music, whether it’s Brand Nubian, A Tribe Called Quest, or De La Soul, because they just got their music on streaming, it’s been inspiring to hear.”

Pete Rock and Common have collaborated previously. Pete Rock produced Common’s Ice Cube diss ‘The Bitch In Yoo’ as well as ‘Verbal Murder 2. You can watch Common speaking about the album on The Today Show below.
