Man found guilty in stabbing murder of battle rapper Pat Stay

Battle rapper Pat Stay was stabbed and killed in September 2022. Now, 34-year-old Adam Drake has been found guilty of his murder.

Drake was charged with second-degree murder in the verdict that was delivered on June 18th. It carries an automatic life sentence with eligibility for parole between 10 and 25 years. A date for the sentencing hearing will be set on June 20th, where a decision will be made on how long he will spend behind bars.

It took the jury around 12 hours to reach a guilty verdict. According to CBC, Drake told Stay’s family that the jury “got it wrong” and they “don’t got justice.”

Outside the courtroom, Stay’s spouse, Malyssa Burns, told reporters, “I was going in there with a little bit of doubt just to keep my heart safe. So I was I was happy to hear the verdict, for sure.”

Stay was stabbed at the Yacht Club Social in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at around 12:30am on September 4th, 2022, having walked into the club’s VIP area. Drake was arrested on September 10th and was initially charged with first-degree murder.

Following his death, tributes from major artists flooded in, with everyone from Eminem to Drake showing their appreciation for Stay.

Em took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Hip Hop lost one of the best battlers of all time. RIP @patstay … KINGS NEVER DIE!!”

Drake also paid tribute on his Instagram Stories, stating, “RIP to the Sucka Free Boss @patstay_902 one of my fav rappers ever.”

Stay, widely considered one of the best rappers of all time, was born in Dartmouth and died at 36. The Alchemist and Royce Da 5’9″ also shared their condolences after his passing.
