Man arrested for trying to murder OMB Peezy

OMB Peezy was targeted in a nightclub shooting in North Carolina in April. Now, a man has been charged with attempting to kill him.

21-year-old Ja’Quan Jahmer Whitehurst was arrested last month and charged with six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and four counts of shooting a weapon into occupied property.

According to WRAL, the shooting took place on April 13th at StarBar in Raleigh near Trawick Road and New Bern Avenue. At around 4am, police officers responded to reports of a shooting. They claimed over 20 shots were fired in the bar’s car park. No one was injured in the shooting, but some of the gunshots hit Peezy’s van.

A witness told CBS 17, “I would say about 4am is when we heard shots fired outside the club, and everybody pretty much ran outside. We couldn’t really tell where the shots were coming from.”

Whitehurst’s bond is set at $1 million. A deposition hearing occurred on June 10th, with the man scheduled to return to court on August 5th.

Following the incident, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement investigated the bar, and the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission suspended its alcohol license. Staff members had warrants issued for serving alcohol after hours on the night of the shooting.

Sacramento rapper OMB Peezy (real name Le’Paris Dade) has over 1.2 million Instagram followers. His biggest Spotify songs include ‘Lay Down’ (20 million streams), ‘Big Homie’ (19 million streams), and ‘Doin Bad’ (18 million streams), which is a collaboration with NBA YoungBoy.

In January, he released his last solo album, Drifting Away, and dropped a collaborative album with FBLMANNY called OverKrash last month.
