Offset names his favourite group “in the history of rap”

The Migos, comprised of Offset, Quavo, and the late artist Takeoff, were a legendary trio. During their tenure as hip-hop’s leading crew, they most certainly made some changes to the culture. For better or for worse, whether you love the Migos or hate them, it’s fair to say they made some lasting changes with regard to the kind of rap people consume.

Formed in Atlanta, the Migos (short for amigos) shifted culture. All three members were related and managed by legendary Atlanta manager Coach K. In 2013, they had their first breakthrough in the charts with the track ‘Versace’.

In 2014, Migos signed with Warner Bros’ 300 Entertainment and from there, the group grew to take over hip hop and became the faces of what some dub mumble rap but others just call rap. Many would even say they are one of the best collectives to ever come out of Atlanta.

However, in 2022, Offset, alongside his wife Cardi B, uploaded a video to Instagram that saw him listening to another group from the city. Furthermore, he even named them the best hip-hop crew of all time.

Before the Migos had even formed, one of the biggest groups in Atlanta was Outkast. With Andre 3000 and Big Boi at the helm, they have ascended to become one of the most iconic duos of all time and even produced the highest-selling hip-hop album of all time, their 2003 project Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

While relaxing with his wife, Cardi B, the two listened to the chart-hit ‘Player’s Anthem by UGK featuring Outkast, and during the video, Offset stated, “This is my favourite group, I feel like, in the history of rap,” he said. “Outkast, from the A.”

In an interview with Angela Yee on her Way Up radio show, Offset explained why he believes Outkast are the best, detailing, “I think Outkast are number one! I respect Outkast because, during that time, the down south music wasn’t accepted at all, wasn’t nobody winning awards wasn’t nobody able to break that barrier.”

The legacy of Outkast is impossible to deny. The duo have been rightly regarded as mainstream hits, defying pop culture to rack up number-one singles. But perhaps their finest achievement is their uniqueness. Whether it is their unusual concepts or flagrantly different rhymes, Andre 3000 and Big Boi completely changed the expectations on hip-hop groups.

Without the duo providing a new path to walk along, there is no doubt that Migos would not have been able to hit the magnificent heights they did.
