Nines receives huge prison sentence for supplying cannabis
London rap star Nines has been jailed for 37 months for the supply of cannabis. The 35-year-old was sentenced for three offences this week.
The popular artist (real name Courtney Freckleton) was found guilty of being concerned in the supply of a controlled Class B drug, namely cannabis, between August 1st, 2023, and November 16th, 2023.
According to Chris Summers of The Epoch Times, he was also convicted of possessing a controlled Class B drug, namely cannabis, on November 15th, 2024.
In addition, Nines failed to comply with a Serious Crime Prevention Order by failing to notify the police of a change of address between August and November 2023.
He was sentenced by Judge Heptonstall at Kingston Crown Court on November 13th, but will be out of jail a lot sooner.
Due to time served and other reasons, he will only spend four or five months behind bars and is set to be free by Easter.
Nines pleaded guilty to each of the charges in September. The judge told the rapper that he had a “successful career” in music, but that his “talents had been tainted” by his cannabis crimes.
He’s released many successful projects throughout his career. His third studio album, Crabs in a Bucket, was released on Warner Records in 2020 and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.
All seven of his albums have debuted in the top five, with his first two LPs, One Foot Out and Crop Circle, arriving on XL Recordings.
Nines has over 1.6 million monthly Spotify listeners and 666,000 Instagram followers. His highest-charting song, ‘Tony Soprano 2’, climbed to number ten on the UK Singles Chart in 2023.
