Nicki Minaj reveals her plans to secure a college degree

Nicki Minaj is an unparalleled rapper and to this day, her lyricism has not been matched by another female emcee. However, she does far more than just rap, and on November 3rd, the artist took to social media to tell her fans that not only is she pursuing a college degree, but she will also be helping her fans get through higher education by bringing back an initiative she had in the 2010s.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Minaj told her followers, “Barbz, as you may recall, two days ago, I mentioned me getting a college degree and that I’d share more on the major and other details at a later time.”

The major details were not only exciting but would be life-changing for some fans. Unveiling the return of her initiative, Minaj continued, “I wanted to also mention that I plan on resuming my Student of the Game charity for Barbz, who need help with college. [More] info [to] come.”

In 2017, the Pink Friday creator helped droves of her fans who were looking for a degree but couldn’t afford college. Through pure kindness and her initiative, Nicki offered to pay fans’ tuition, room and board, book costs, student loans, and more to help alleviate the stress that comes with going to college.

Following her post, a fan who she helped in 2017 revealed their experience and explained how Minaj’s assistance allowed them to get into law school. Recalling this, the fan wrote, “You helped me graduate college by paying my student loans in 2017! I graduated with my BA in Criminal Justice, and now I’m into law school. Thank you.”

Another student she helped out added, “Will never forget this. You said mine on IG live, and from there, I just waited. I told my parents and, like nobody else, off social media. My mom was like, ‘This may be a scam. Don’t give out any personal information,’ and I was like, ‘Mom, this is really NICKI MINAJ.’ And I was like, ‘She follows me on Twitter’, but she still didn’t believe me. She didn’t know how serious you were with fans/fan interaction.”

Minaj gave out thousands to cover student loans and tuition fees, even paying for a $2,000 Wacom tablet for the last of over a dozen recipients. The following year, she officially launched the Student of the Game college fund.

Although Minaj never graduated from college, many female MCs in the game today have degrees.  Megan Thee Stallion is a Texas Southern University alumni, while Saweetie and Lady London earned their degrees from the University of Southern California and Howard University, respectively.
