Entertainment personality Nick Cannon has made an attempt to reach out to rapper and business mogul Kanye West following the media frenzy that occurred with West at the centre last year. West made several antisemitic comments that drew the attention of the public and the press.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Cannon said that he had tried to contact West when the first comments were made and tried to help guide his beliefs towards a more caring perspective, even attempting to have him sit down with prominent figures in the Jewish community.
“Kanye is saying some wild s**t, and I don’t know if he really believes it,” Cannon said. “I tried to talk to him. I tried to put him with leaders in the Jewish community. I think it’s a lot more there. I just know he’s in desperate need of help and love and people to not abandon him.”
Cannon himself had previously been caught up in controversy. He was sacked by ViacomCBS in 2020 after he made racist and antisemitic comments in a podcast episode. However, Cannon apologised for his words and said that he would be trying to educate himself by talking with Jewish community leaders.
