New York rapper killed by her uncle in the Bronx

New York rapper Jewelz Champaign has been shot and killed by her uncle.

The 39-year-old (real name Julia Anderson), who once rapped alongside Jadakiss, reportedly lost her life on July 13th over a property dispute.

According to the New York Post, Champaign was shot multiple times in the stomach in the Bronx.

Champaign was stepping into her black Jeep in the Wakefield neighbourhood when she was shot. She was found on the floor on Murdock Avenue before being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where she died.

58-year-old Michael Foster, from Mount Vernon, has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and 10 counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Sources said that an argument over an inherited home appeared to be the cause of the shooting.

The New York Police Department raided a home linked to the pair in Bell Avenue on July 15th, which saw them carrying out evidence bags, taking photos, and examining a gun box.

Officers escorted Foster from the Bronx’s 47th Precinct to a police car that day; he’s currently awaiting arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.

Speaking on her death, Champaign’s mother, Beverley Patterson, said, “She was very good, she kind of looks similar like me, although she’s tall, like six foot, I think. I don’t know, she went to work, and that was it, never heard anything from her again.”

Her father, Julius Anderson, added, “I still can’t get my head around it. She was my beautiful daughter, my first. She made me smile all the time. She said, ‘Dad, I can’t make myself do all those things,’ so she stopped [rapping]. She had lots of jokes because she was an artist. She was an entertainer, and they are unique in that sense.”
