New Jersey rapper sentenced to five years in prison for firing gun at pregnant woman
New Jersey rapper P-Dice has been sentenced to five years in prison.
The 38-year-old (real name Justin Pope), best known as a former member of Remy Boyz alongside Fetty Wap and Monty, was handed 63 months behind bars on June 23rd.
The US Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey, revealed that he was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of unlawfully possessing ammunition as a convicted felon.
Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in Clifton, New Jersey, on July 12th, 2023. CCTV footage showed P-Dice arguing with a pregnant woman in a car before she took a gun from Dice, waved it at him and then handed it back.
From there, she hit him in the face with her hand before exiting the vehicle. The rapper then pointed the gun at the woman and fired two shots from close range. She got back into the car to escape, but Dice pulled the woman’s arm to pull her back out. He then climbed over the woman and kicked her to push from the car.
In the days after the incident took place, P-Dice taunted the police in videos posted to social media. “Can’t find me, police. Y’all never gonna find me,” he said. In another clip, he said, “Can’t find me. Fucking pigs. Police. Y’all never gonna find me.”
Shortly after, police officers arrested Dice as he tried to get on a bus to New York City, finding a loaded gun.
US Attorney Robert Frazer said, “The defendant’s brazen and violent conduct could have cost lives. Pope fired multiple shots at close range at a pregnant woman in a public parking lot and took to social media to taunt law enforcement as he continued to endanger the community.”
He continued, “This sentence holds him accountable not only for unlawfully possessing ammunition as a convicted felon, but for the potentially deadly harm of his actions. Our Office will continue to prioritise the prosecution of individuals who use firearms and ammunition to threaten lives and undermine the safety of our communities.”
P-Dice was previously convicted of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting of a child.
