New Alicia Keys musical will hit Broadway in March

R’n’B singer and pianist Alicia Keys has revealed that a musical loosely based on her life will hit New York’s iconic Broadway in the Spring of next year. Earlier this month, the Manhattan native released a statement about the upcoming production.

The vocalist, who is currently playing at the Public Theater in New York’s East Village, will have her own musical at the Shubert Theater on Broadway from April 20th, 2024, and recently released a statement jovially announcing her new project.

In a statement, Keys announced, “Good things take time, and for 13 years, I’ve been dreaming, developing and finding inspiration for a musical based on my experience growing up in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC. Hell’s Kitchen is inspired by my life, but it’s not a biographical story. It’s a story about family relationships and identity: Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who are we becoming?”

Keys continued, “The score features new songs that I’m really excited to get out into the world alongside many of my album releases that you know, but you’ve never heard like this – rearranged and reinterpreted.”

The score of the musical was written by Keys herself. Kristoffer Diaz penned the script. The Broadway cast has not yet been announced. However, this musical is not the only announcement Keys has made this year.

Earlier this year, Keys began her own tea brand and filed a trademark to launch ‘Alicia Teas’ a move which was inspired by a gift from her husband, Swizz Beatz. The beatmaker gifted the vocalist her own brand of tea bags in 2020 for her birthday, which he said would one day be sold.

At the time, he took to social media, writing, “Happy birthday we got endless amount of teas and everybody in Starbucks around the world you’re gonna see Alicia Teas. Blessings, happy birthday, baby. Love you!”
