NBA YoungBoy sentenced to 23 months in prison
NBA YoungBoy (also known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again) has pled guilty to one count tied to his gun possession arrest in Louisiana and another count related to a gun charge in Utah. On December 10th, the Baton Rouge rapper was sentenced to 23 months in prison with time served, due to being taken into custody after his Utah home was raided in May.
In addition to the prison sentence, YoungBoy will serve 60 months of probation. However, he could be released as early as next year due to spending seven months in Louisiana custody years ago. YoungBoy was previously facing maximum sentences of 10 and 15 years.
“This has been a long road that involved extensive litigation and ultimately extensive negotiation. Kentrell’s defence team is very happy for [YoungBoy] and we look forward to his many future successes,” defence lawyers Drew Findling, Jeremy Delicino and Jon Williams told Rolling Stone.
The previously mentioned raid saw officers finding a semi-automatic pistol in YoungBoy’s bedroom, with prosecutors claiming they discovered evidence of his involvement in a prescription drug fraud ring.
YoungBoy admitted he was a felon in possession of a Masterpiece Arms 9 mm gun and a .45 caliber Glock Model 21 pistol when he was arrested outside his grandad’s house in Baton Rouge in 2020. He also said that he “knowingly possessed” the Sig Sauer 9mm semi-automatic pistol found in the Utah property where he was serving house arrest for his pending case in Louisiana.
The judge previously revealed that he wanted to give YoungBoy the chance to succeed. “I’ve seen so many times where you have young men and women who have a lot of talent and potential,” he said. “They can be robbed of that potential when they start to really struggle with their addictions. I don’t want that for you.”
He continued, “I’m sure that in your future, once you’re done with your federal prison time, you can be really successful on federal probation and have a really bright future where you can reach your full potential in every aspect of your life. Best of luck to you, Mr. Gaulden.”
