Nas welcomes his “favourite rapper” for special performance

Illmatic legend and creator of the King’s Disease album series Nas has named his favourite rapper of all time as he introduced them as a surprise guest during his performance at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia.

Following the announcement, Nas (real name Nasir Jones) brought out a fellow New Yorker and star of the 1990s, Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan. The two performed their latest collaborative single, ‘Scar Tissue’, as well as their own solo hits.

Ghostface Killah performed a medley of his own hits, and Nas performed a 1994 collaboration he recorded with Raekwon for his debut album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, entitled ‘Verbal Intercourse’.

The Wu-Tang co-founder then performed ‘Cherchez La Ghost’ and ‘Ice Cream’. The Staten Island rapper then concluded the show by performing the iconic Wu-Tang Clan posse cut ‘C.R.E.A.M.’

Jones showed Ghostface Killah a significant amount of love after the show calling Ghost “the greatest” before adding: “That’s my fucking favourite rapper right there.” However, Ghostface Killah wasn’t the only surprise guest that Nas had in-store for his fans.

After noticing Philadelphia native and Roc-a-Fella legend Beanie Sigel at the side of the stage, Nas invited him on stage, exclaiming, “Make some noise for Beanie Sigel, Philly’s own,” to the excitement of fans.

The three MCs then posed for a photo together. Ghostface Killah quickly uploaded the picture to Instagram, writing the caption, “Thank you Philly !!!! Thank you to my brother Nas for bringing me out at the Roots Picnic was amazing.”

Ghostface Killah and Nas have enjoyed a strong relationship over the decades, with the performance further proof of the innate chemistry that exists once they join forces.

Earlier this year, the pair collaborated on for the first time in over a decade on ‘Scar Tissue,’ which appeared on Jones’ album Set The Tone, released via his record label Mass Appeal Records.
