The most streamed rapper of 2024 on Spotify Wrapped
Spotify has revealed its most-streamed artists and songs of the past 12 months to coincide with the annual Spotify Wrapped.
The feature gives users the chance to see a personalised round-up of their music, including their most-listened-to songs and the number of minutes they’ve spent listening to music in the calendar year. Ultimately, Drake took the crown as the biggest hip-hop artist in 2024.
According to The Guardian, Drake finished the year as the most-streamed rapper globally, followed by Travis Scott and Kanye West also in the top ten. The Toronto rapper comes in behind Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny globally, but just second behind Swift in the UK and US.
In the UK, Drake was the most-streamed rapper ahead of Kanye West, Eminem and Travis Scott. Meanwhile, as for the US, Drizzy topped once again with Kanye West, Future, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott trailing behind him.
The Canadian comes in at number one despite not releasing a project this year, with his last album, For All the Dogs, dropping in October 2023. However, he did receive widespread attention around his diss tracks towards Kendrick.
The news comes shortly after Drake filed a pre-action disclosure against Spotify, accusing them of illegally boosting streams for Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ diss track alongside Universal Music. The filing by Drizzy’s Frozen Moments company claimed bots, undisclosed payments and biased recommendations were used in the alleged practice.
The legal paperwork cited claims from a “whistleblower” that they were paid to boost the song after it was released, but there has been no proof that it took place. “The whistleblower described Spotify as the easiest platform ‘to bot’ because it does not, like other streaming platforms, have certain security measures ‘when it comes to bot protection,’” the filing said.
The most popular hip-hop song on Spotify in 2024:
Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us‘ ended the year as the most-streamed hip-hop song in the US, with the likes of Shaboozey, Post Malone and Tommy Richman also in the top ten.
Earlier this year, ‘Not Like Us’ broke a Spotify streaming record previously held by Drake. The track racked up 10.9 million streams in one day to secure the biggest single day streams of a hip-hop song in US Spotify history, beating Drake and Lil Baby’s ‘Girls Want Girls’, which earned 6.5 million streams in 24 hours.
However, Drake hit a major milestone of his own in June by surpassing 100 billion total streams across Spotify from his solo work and collaborations, amounting to 234 million streams per song and five billion streams per album.
