M.I.A. claims Jay-Z encouraged her to get plastic surgery after signing for Roc Nation
M.I.A. has alleged that when she signed to Roc Nation, Jay-Z told her to get plastic surgery in order to improve her image. The London artist made the comments during a recent Instagram Live session about her lack of insecurity.
The rapper, born Mathangi Arulpragasam, was signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation management company between 2012 and 2014 which was around the time she released her Matangi album. The album debuted at number 64 on the UK Albums Chart and number 23 on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week.
Now, M.I.A. claimed Hov immediately encouraged her to get cosmetic work done upon inking a deal with his company. “When I met Jay-Z and I signed to Roc Nation, the first thing he told me to do is to get plastic surgery,” she said. “I’m not insecure because I would have got plastic surgery.”
She continued, “So their argument of ‘Maya’s fucking insecure, that’s why she needs to fucking massage her ego,’ fails … What women do you know who hasn’t had plastic surgery around you? All of them have. I’m the only one who didn’t, which already proves the fact it’s not insecurity.”
the singer went on to say that it took her longer to kickstart her career due to her bringing something new to music at the time. “Because it’s OK. Guess what? I’m 50, and I’m totally fine with the fact I am because, yeah, I fucking took off when I was 30,” she said. “It took 10 more fucking years than any other fucker because I was the first and I was the new. I was making something interesting happen that wasn’t fucking happening before.”
M.I.A., who is best known for her hit single ‘Paper Planes’, previously called out Jay-Z and Roc Nation in February during a rant that claimed she wasn’t able to see her son and that he was staying with people convicted of sex trafficking.
She alleged a conspiracy involving her ex-husband Benjamin Bronfman’s prominent family and former label Roc Nation. “My first custody battle was 2013. My child was four. I was managed by Jay-Z. Who ultimately was paid by Bronfmans,” she said.
M.I.A. continued to take aim at Jay-Z and Roc Nation, saying, “The day I was served, 4 my child, Roc Nation stopped all communication with me and all my emails to Jay-Z asking for help was wiped from my inbox. My was broken into and every lap was taken. I was trapped in Brooklyn on order served that restricted me leaving Bklyn for 15 years.”
