MIA calls out Kid Cudi for kicking her off tour: “He didn’t even speak to me”
MIA has called out Kid Cudi for kicking her off his tour, claiming they never had a conversation.
The singer/rapper was axed from the Rebel Ragers Tour due to “offensive remarks” after comments made on stage in Dallas, Texas.
As a result, MIA filed a lawsuit against Cudi, seeking $2.8 million from the purported guarantee and over $75,000 in compensatory damages.
During a recent appearance on Popcast, MIA revealed that she found out she was being taken off the tour through her son, who had seen social media posts.
“[Cudi] didn’t even speak to me about it,” she said. “He didn’t call my management, he didn’t call me, he didn’t talk to the crew, and I even made an effort to go to talk to him, and he didn’t see me. Yeah, it was kind of crazy. And then my son is like, ‘Hey, I heard you’re not on the tour,’ and I’m waking up the next morning.”
She continued, “That’s how I find out, from a different state. My son called me from school, and he’s like, ‘Oh, I guess you’re coming home.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he sent me the posts.”
MIA alleged that Cudi’s statement was “riddled with falsehoods” and that removing her was “intentional interference with contractual relations.”
Her representative said, “Kid Cudi’s attempts to silence freedom of artistic expression and speech on his Rebel Ragers Tour cannot go unchallenged. Censorship is something MIA has fought against her whole career. For decades, MIA. has used her platform to speak on human rights and other complex global issues as a refugee who became a global star.”
Her complaint was filed in the United States Court District of California Western Division on May 29th.
