Metro Boomin reveals his favourite Kanye West album ever

St. Louis producer Metro Boomin is one of the most esteemed beatmakers in contemporary hip-hop. As well as fellow musician Kanye West, the producer (real name Leland Wayne) has worked with MCs such as Young Thug, Travis Scott, Drake, 21 Savage, and Future.

However, despite having worked with Ye, Wayne is also a superfan of the Chicago entrepreneur and lyricist. That said, during a conversation with fans on Twitter/X, the beatmaker spoke about West and Kendrick Lamar and revealed some of his favourites from their respective discographies.

When asked by a user about his favourite Kanye West album, the beatmaker responded, “Between College Dropout and Graduation.” He continued, “808s [& Heartbreak] and Late Registration are right there in the fight with them too tho.”

When he was then asked to name his favourite Kendrick Lamar track, Boomin went back to 2011 and highlighted an overlooked Section.80 song, writing, “The Spiteful Chant!!! [fire emojis].”

In a 2023 interview with ProducerGrind, Wayne admitted that Kanye is one of his “all-time idols” and opened up about when he got the opportunity to work with him on his 2016 project, The Life Of Pablo.

Speaking about ‘Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1.’ which he co-produced, Wayne recalled, “When Kanye was working on Pablo, I remember he just had the sample to ‘Father Stretch My Hands.’ He was like, ‘Man, I want you to fuck with this.’ To me, this is Kanye, this is one of my all-time idols.”

He continued, “So I’m like, ‘Whatever I do, he probably ain’t gon’ fuck with it.’ I sent it to him, and I still didn’t know if he was gonna use it or not… He called me — this is when he was at Madison Square Garden — and said, ‘Yo, I need you to send that Young Metro tag.'”

However, Wayne didn’t end up sending his producer tag as he knew it really a Kanye West track, admitting, “I had sent it without my tag ’cause I was like, ‘This is a Kanye song, I ain’t trying to throw my tag [on it]’… I got off a plane, I opened my phone and Twitter, Instagram, everything was exploding!”
