TV meteorologist fired for quoting Snoop Dogg live on air

Barbie Bassett, a meteorologist for Mississippi TV station WLBT, has not been seen on air since quoting Snoop Dogg earlier this month. According to a Deadline report, the presenter’s last appearance on the channel’s morning show caused much controversy.

The news team were discussing the idea of a collaboration between Snoop Dogg and a newsroom journalist when Bassett chipped in with: “Fo shizzle, my nizzle.”

According to reports, this is not the first time Bassett has caused controversy live on air. In October 2022, she was forced to apologise after referring to a Black reporter’s “grandmammy” on air. Her absence from the programme since Wednesday has led viewers to assume she’s now been fried from her role.

Bassett is no longer listed on the WLBT website, nor has she been active on social media. According to The Clarion Ledger: “Bassett did not respond to direct messages on Twitter, Facebook and her personal website.” Bassett is yet to comment on the incident.
