Megan Thee Stallion wins civil trial against blogger
Megan Thee Stallion sued blogger Milagro Gramz for defamation in 2024. This week, US District Judge Cecilia M Altonaga ruled in the rapper’s favour.
The Houston artist accused Gramz (real name Milagro Cooper) of posting pro-Tory Lanez content following the 2020 shooting that resulted in the Canadian rapper being sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Megan alleged that Gramz served as a “mouthpiece,” “puppet,” and “paid surrogate” for Lanez. On the stand, she explained how a deepfake porn video damaged her mental health.
As a result, Megan was awarded $75,000 by the jury, but the judge stated the amount could change in the final written judgment.
In a statement to NBC News, Megan’s attorney, Mari Henderson, said, “We’re thankful for the jury’s commitment to reinforcing the importance of truth, accountability and responsible commentary on social media.”
She continued, “Not only is Milagro being held accountable for paying Megan compensatory and punitive damages, but Florida’s fee-shifting legal provision will require her to cover costs of Megan’s legal bills on the deepfake claim. This verdict sends a clear message that spreading dangerous misinformation carries significant consequences.”
In response to the verdict, Gramz said, “I’m not ecstatic. Of course you want things to go your way, but like I said, I respect the jury and what they decided.”
The jury, consisting of five men and four women, could have awarded Megan seven digits, but decided against it.
Gramz’s attorney, Jeremy McLymont, added, “We respect the jury’s verdict. You always have to, right? Whether we agree with it or not, we respect it. At the end of the day, it was not a complete win for any side.”
Megan Thee Stallion released her last album, Megan, in June 2024. It reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart.
