Megan Thee Stallion makes contribution to Houston Hurricane victims
After Hurricane Beryl’s devastation in Houston, Houston native Megan Thee Stallion has donated to various relief funds.
The hurricane recently tore through Houston during the summer, leaving 18 dead and countless more losing power. The lack of power is also said to have contributed to the deaths, with many suffering from heat-related ailments.
In an effort to help, the rapper has worked with the relief fund Bread of Life and her own Pete and Thomas Foundation to work with the Emergency Power Program. The mission seeks to give Houston’s elderly community access to generators so they will not succumb to any form of heatstroke.
In a statement, Megan emphasised the importance of caring for the elderly community, saying, “It’s been painful to watch the elderly population in Houston suffer without electricity during these devastating storms. That’s why we wanted to partner with Bread Of Life to take a strategic approach to this problem and secure generators to help protect our senior citizens.”
She also went on to say that the main goal behind this relief fund was to make sure that people are prepared for when the next hurricane season arrives, explaining, “We need to do our part to provide our elders with the best resources possible to withstand future emergencies.”
Ever since the devastating storms, the Houston community has continued to struggle without power. As millions of people try to find shelter from the heat, thousands of people have been in the dark for nine days on end. Since then, that number has climbed to over 2 million.
Of course, this is far from the first time that Stallion has worked with charity relief funds. When founding the Pete and Thomas Foundation in 2022, Stallion sought to raise money for women, children, and seniors who live in underserved communities in Houston. Since its inception, it has focused on the education, housing, and health and wellness of the Houston community.
This comes right as Stallion is due to wrap up her latest tour. After the release of her self-titled album Megan, the rapper is closing in on the final dates of the ‘Hot Girl Summer’ tour. The album had also been controversial before it was released, containing the diss track ‘HISS’ kicking off the record, which many have speculated as being a snipe at Nicki Minaj.
