Megan Thee Stallion made a much-welcomed surprise appearance alongside the Encanto cast at the Oscars to perform ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’.
The track has been a major global hit since the release of the Disney film towards the end of 2021, with ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ topping the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo got the cast’s performance underway on Sunday. Megan promptly joined them, she delivered a scintillating rap verse before Sheila E., Becky G, and Luis Fonsi also arrived on stage.
Encanto director Jared Bush told Rolling Stone that even he was unaware Megan would be performing. “I’d say they kept a lot of secrets from us,” he revealed. “We knew that there was going to be some version of ‘Bruno’ tonight, but it was going to be something unexpected and fun.”
“I absolutely loved it, of course, and I think different people have found a way into the story and into our songs especially,” Bush added. “Different people doing their own takes, so seeing Megan Thee Stallion do it is mind-blowing, absolutely mind-blowing.”
Meanwhile, she is also currently at war with her label, 1501, who were refusing to recognise her record Something for Thee Hotties as a studio album.
Megan’s attorney Brad Hancock has told TMZ: “This is yet another absurd attempt by 1501 to disregard Megan’s album and squeeze more money and more free work out of her for as long as possible. We will ask the court to protect Megan from this type of abuse.”
