MC Hammer sued over unpaid car payments for his Land Rover

MC Hammer has been sued over unpaid car payments. The Oakland rapper has been accused of failing to make car payments for his Land Rover and refusing to repossess the vehicle.

JPMorgan Chase Bank filed the lawsuit in San Joaquin County Superior Court last week, claiming Hammer and his company, U Can’t Touch This LLC, owe $76,732.79. He initially took out a $114,376.90 loan for the car in 2023.

He agreed to buy the SUV with 60 monthly payments of $2,434 from a dealership in Livermore, California. According to Billboard, the bank “demanded possession” of the car, but claimed Hammer had “not surrendered the vehicle.”

This isn’t the first time the ‘U Can’t Touch This’ rapper has faced financial problems. In 1996, he filed for bankruptcy, stating he had only $1million in assets to pay more than $10million in debt.

Hammer said thoroughbred race horses, limousines, gold jewellery, and his home in the Fremont hills, which had a panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay Area, had contributed to his money drying up.

“It’s time to stop the bleeding and get on with my life,” he said. “It’s time for me to close out old business and stop being the lottery for people who see Hammer as this big celebrity with a bottomless pit of dreams for people.”

He released his sixth studio album, Inside Out, in September 1995. It featured the singles ‘Sultry Funk’, ‘Keep On’, and ‘Goin’ Up Yonder’. It took him six years to release the follow-up, Active Duty, which paid tribute to those who passed away in the September 11th terrorist attacks.

According to Financial Monthly, Hammer’s net worth peaked in the early ’90s at roughly $70 million. As of July 2025, it’s reportedly $2 million.
