Mary J. Blige announces 14th studio album

Mary J. Blige has shared the exciting news that her 14th studio album will arrive next year.

The upcoming project from Blige will be the iconic singer’s first album in five years when she released Strength of a Woman. Her next record was recently teased during an appearance on Tamron Hall’s talk show, where Blige discussed the material she’s been cooking up — which she believes is as good as anything else she’s made.

“Wait ’til you hear it – it’s gonna blow everybody’s mind,” Blige said. “It’s something I had to do, and something I had to say, when I was in my darkest moments.

“[I had] to build myself up to this person that I can see and accept my nose, accept my eyes, accept my cheeks… accept all the things that I used to hate.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, she released the documentary, My Life, which is available to stream on Amazon Prime. The film is directed by Oscar-winner Vanessa Roth and explores Blige’s 1994 album of the same name.

My Life is probably my darkest album at one of the darkest times I’ve had,” Blige said in the emotional trailer. “Most of the time I was just depressed and didn’t want to live.”

She added: “I had it all inside and I was able to sing it and write it, and I didn’t know that so many people felt the same way.”
