Man convicted of killing rapper found dead in Maryland prison
An inmate who was found guilty of murdering a rapper has died inside a Maryland prison.
31-year-old Quran Middleton-Bey of Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, died at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover on March 10th.
According to The Baltimore Banner, officers found the man dead in his cell. He was reportedly lying on the floor unresponsive at around midnight.
Police said he was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
Middleton-Bey was serving a 10-year sentence for his alleged involvement in the murder of rapper Big Lyl (real name Khalil Wiggins) in 2017.
Lyl appeared in the 2003 movie Guilty by Association, starring Morgan Freeman, alongside his group, Section 8 Mob. The film follows the life of Isaac Washington, who was born and raised on the streets of Baltimore.
NBC Washington reported that Lyl suffered multiple gunshot wounds inside his Capitol Heights, Maryland, home, with three masked men shooting into his home. The incident took place in the 3900 block of Byers Street. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
As well as Middleton-Bey, 22-year-old Michael Stevenson III, 23-year-old Kierra Williams, and 23-year-old Damond Foster were also arrested and held without bond. Prince George’s County Police Department stated that the motive appeared to be a robbery, charging each of them with first and second-degree murder.
Middleton-Bey becomes the fourth death at a Maryland prison to be investigated by police in 2026, following the passing of three prisoners at facilities in January.
33-year-old Joseph Harrell and 38-year-old Javon Foster died at Jessup Correctional Institution, while 51-year-old Larry Horton died at North Branch Correctional Institution in Allegany County.
