Malaysian rapper Namewee detained in murder investigation

Malaysian rapper Namewee was detained on November 5th in connection with the murder of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.

The 42-year-old rapper (real name Wee Meng Chee) surrendered himself to authorities in the early hours of the morning and will be remanded for six days.

The day before, police revealed they were searching for Chee after Yu-hsin’s death had been reclassified as murder.

According to AP News, Hsieh Yu-hsin was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur on October 22nd.

Police stated that Chee was the last person to be seen with Yu-hsin before her death. He was initially detained and charged with drug use and possession.

The 31-year-old woman, known as “Nurse Goddess,” had over half a million Instagram followers and also had an OnlyFans account. She reportedly landed in Malaysia on October 20th and was expected to stay for four days.

Prior to turning himself in, Namewee took to Instagram to share a video of himself at the police station.

“I will fully assist the police in their investigations and be accountable to the public and the family of the deceased,” he told his followers. “I will not run. When I was wanted seven times in the past, I turned up on my own each time, never running away.”

The day before, police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said, “For now, we regard this person who was last with the victim as being involved in the case. We will be calling him in to assist in the investigation. Depending on the findings, we will decide whether he should be treated as a suspect.”

Namewee has over 855,000 Instagram followers. His biggest song on Spotify has over 51 million streams.
