Madlib launches fundraiser after losing home in LA wildfires
The devastating wildfires spreading across Los Angeles have destroyed Madlib‘s home. The renowned producer has since posted a message on his Instagram page asking fans to donate to a fundraiser to help him and his family get back on their feet.
Not only does the producer’s family require basics such as housing and clothing, but Madlib also lost years of music and the equipment he used to record material. “We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support in helping legendary producer Madlib and his family after losing their home, decades of music, and equipment in the devastating LA fires,” the message began.
“Your donation, no matter the amount, will provide assistance to help Madlib with immediate personal needs, essentials like clothing, temporary housing, transportation costs and the tools Madlib needs to continue creating the music that has touched so many lives.”
The message concluded, “100% of your donations are tax deductible and will go directly to Madlib and his family. Continue creating the music that has touched so many lives. Thank you in advance for your love, prayers and support.”
Donations are being taken over at the Donorbox website, with over 800 people donating to Madlib’s fund so far. As of the early hours of January 14th, 24 people had died in the fires, with a further 23 missing. Severe fire weather is expected to continue throughout the week with the potential to worsen the situation.
Madlib isn’t the only artist to lose everything to the wildfires. Last week, Jhené Aiko revealed that she unfortunately lost her home with all of her belongings. “Praying for everyone this morning,” she wrote on social media. “Those who lost their home. Those who lost their life’s work, those who lost their life. Praying for my city. Praying for the wildlife and lost pets. Praying for the world. Let suffering be a gift; a lesson in compassion.”
She added, “Me and my children’s home is gone. Burned to the ground with all of our things inside. Lord have mercy. Thankful we still have each other. Starting from scratch. My heart is so heavy.”
