Machine Gun Kelly's 'Good Mourning' up for seven Razzies

Rapper-turned-director Machine Gun Kelly‘s 2022 directorial debut, the stoner comedy Good Mourning, was so widely panned that it has been nominated for seven awards at this year’s Golden Raspberries.

The 43rd annual awards ceremony – known more commonly as the Razzies – is a somewhat humorous pun on the Oscars and honours the worst films of the previous 12 months.

Founded in 1981, many memorable titles have taken home awards from the ceremony. These include Nicolas Cage’s 1997 action classic Con Air and Tim Burton’s 2001 remake of Planet of the Apes. More recent recipients were flicks such as Space Jam: A New Legacy, Cats, The Emoji Movie, and musician Sia’s drama, Music.

Whilst this year’s nominations feature the likes of Morbius and Blonde, with them numerically led by the latter, a controversial Netflix title, Machine Gun Kelly’s Good Mourning comes in second place, with seven nominations.

The film was first announced back in August 2021. It was co-written by Machine Gun Kelly – real name Colson Baker – alongside rapper Mod Sun. “We’re just happy to be bringing our vision to life,” they told Deadline at the time of the announcement. “We’re humbled by the trust we have from our cast members and crew.”

As well as co-penning the script, Kelly directed and stars in the movie alongside Mod Sun, fiancée Megan Fox and comedian Pete Davidson. It became the musician’s third film last year, following his cameo in Jackass Forever and starring role in the drama Taurus. It was the third time Kelly had worked with Davidson, following appearances in Big Time Adolescence and The King of Staten Island

Good Mourning has received nominations for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay at this year’s Razzies, alongside two in the Worst Supporting Actor category for Mod Sun and Pete Davidson. Baker has also been put forward for Worst Actor and Worst Director with Mod Sun, with the pair also sharing a nod for Worst Onscreen Combination.
