Lorde labels Kendrick Lamar “the most popular and influential artist in modern music”

Everyone’s favourite pop star, Lorde, has paid tribute to Kendrick Lamar and his uber-successful new album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. The Solar Power singer has revealed how much she loves Kendrick and his work, and has praised the maturity and honesty of the new album.

“I’m loving Kendrick,” the singer-songwriter said in her latest newsletter to fans. “I cannot get over the most popular and influential artist in modern music displaying a working nervous system, admitting mistakes, trying to process intergenerational trauma and prejudice.”

She continued: “I love the way the album opens, the pace and heat of the first few songs, and later ‘Count Me Out’, the build and strings in ‘Auntie Diaries’… [it’s] special.”

Mr. Morale & The Bigg Steppers is the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed DAMN, and it has topped the Billboard album charts gaining the largest first-week sales for an album in 2022 so far. To support the record, Kendrick will head out on a lengthy world tour in July.

Elsewhere, legendary rapper Eminem has praised Lamar’s new record, admitting that after the first listen he was “speechless”.

Eminem was blown away like all of us, and he took to Twitter to share his joy in a post in which he tagged their shared mentor and titan of rap, Dr Dre. The 8 Mile star posted: “This Kendrick album is f ridiculous. I’m speechless.”

Earlier this year, the pair joined forces to perform at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show back in February, alongside Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige.

Additionally, in 2016, Lamar spoke to GQ about how Eminem changed the way he thinks about apporaching lyricism. He said: “I got my clarity just studying Eminem when I was a kid. How I got in the studio was all just curiosity. I had a love for the music, but it was curiosity.”
