Why does Logic hate Joe Budden?

Many rappers have had issues with Joe Budden over the years, with Drake, Migos, Lil Yachty and Eminem being among a long list of names. But Logic, arguably, has more reasons to dislike the former Slaughterhouse member than any other artist.

The Maryland rapper has enjoyed a highly successful career that’s included seven albums on the prestigious Def Jam label and topped the Billboard 200 chart on several occasions. He’s also seen huge success as a touring artist, while achieving hit singles such as ‘1-800-273-8255’ and ‘Homicide’ with Eminem.

However, Joe Budden has never seen the appeal of Logic. Since switching his profession from rapper to podcast host, Budden has been highly critical and never been afraid of sharing his opinion about him. In 2019, after hearing Logic’s verse on French Montana’s ‘Twisted’ with A$AP Rocky and Juicy J, Budden described him as “easily one of the worst rappers to ever grace a microphone.”

“I’m going to be honest with you… I don’t know what they tell you at Def Jam, I know you sold a lot of records, I know you sell out a whole bunch of tours and I know just how successful you are, I have to be honest — you are horrible, man,” he said on the Joe Budden Podcast. “He is really bad. But why am I the only one? C’mon, y’all. You can say it.”

What’s the beef between Logic and Joe Budden?

Logic addressed his comments on the New Rory & Mal podcast in a conversation with the co-hosts who were previously part of the Joe Budden Podcast. He called Budden someone who is “hurt” and admitted that he was partially responsible for him deciding to retire from rap at the time.

“I read this and my heart rate explodes,” he said. “And I’m like, ‘Oh my God’. And I go out, and I’m at like the [Madison Square] Garden and everyone is rapping my lyrics and shit, whatever. And I’m like, ‘I’m a failure.’ I’m being a man who’s honest and open. Joe Budden is a hurt person.”

But Joe Budden didn’t stop there. In 2023, he begged Logic to retire after hearing his cover of Ice Cube’s ‘It Was a Good Day’. “Logic, I hate to continue to make a career at your expense,” he said. “I don’t hate it, actually. I’m glad that I have a little list of you that I get to — that’s horrible to say. One day I’m gonna grow up.”

He continued, “Logic, I beg of you, I’m pleading with you: please join me in retirement. Never step near a recording device again! Throw your phone in the ocean! Be allergic to microphones! Promise your fans nothing! Don’t go to the studio ever again! You are the worst, yo! You are really, really bad!”

Logic previously said he’s never watched Joe Budden’s show due to the fact he doesn’t want to “subject” himself to “that shit.” While he said Budden has complete freedom of speech, he wanted him to be aware of the damage he’s causing to not only his mental health, but other artists he’s shooting down.

“This dude doesn’t like me for whatever reason,” he told Peter Rosenberg. “He wants to say I’m not black enough, I’m not good enough. He’s a person who’s led to part of my depression and some of my darkest spaces. He can take that however he wants. Bro, your words make people want to kill themselves and that’s a real thing.”
