LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow to host 2022 MTV VMAs

Its been confirmed that this year’s MTV Video Music Awards will be co-hosted by none other than LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow. The 2022 ceremony will take place on August 28th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The night is set to feature performances by a diverse range of acts, including Panic! At The Disco, J Balvin, Nicki Minaj, Jack Harlow, Lizzo, Måneskin, Anitta, BLACKPINK, and Marshmello x Khalid. Further acts are yet to be announced.

MTV has said that the three co-hosts will bring a “more innovative and unique approach” to the MC role. They will introduce key moments throughout the night such as live performances, and welcome award presenters onto the stage.

Jack Harlow isn’t just hosting. He’s also been nominated in seven awards categories at this year’s VMAs, the same number as Lil Nas X and Kendrick Lamar. Nicki Minja, meanwhile, is set to relieve the awkwardly-titled Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, an honour that LL Cool J previously received in 1997.

Both Harlow and Italian glam-rockers Måneskin have withdrawn from their scheduled performances at the 2022 Reading & Leeds Festival in order to attend the VMAs 2022, making it abundantly clear where their priorities lie. In a recent statement, Reading & Leeds organisers said that they were “saddened to hear that both acts had “decided to perform at an award show the same weekend they were confirmed to play Reading & Leeds”.

R&L subsequently confirmed that Charli XCX and AJ Tracey would be filling in for Måneskin and Harlow on the 2022 lineup. Reading & Leeds is set to kick off on August 26th.
