Lizzo reveals the one and only reason she would consider marriage
‘About Damn Time’ singer Lizzo found herself in a lot of trouble last year after several members of her team and backup dancers accused her of bullying, harassment and racial discrimination. However, the vocalist has still been releasing music for her loyal fan base and, in an interview, spoke about her love life.
Many followers of the ‘Truth Hurts’ musician were shocked yet happy when Lizzo announced that she had a long-term boyfriend in April of 2022 and were keen to find out whether marriage was on the cards. However, her response was controversial and devoid of heart to many.
Lizzo said that she would never get married purely out of love and, as she continues to climb the ranks of the music industry, suggested that any future union would be to protect what she has earned so far.
In 2019, the singer burst into the mainstream with her third studio album, Cuz I Love You and the two singles that sent her to the top of the charts were ‘Truth Hurts’ and ‘Good as Hell.’ Since 2019, she has received numerous Grammy nominations and taken home awards in the categories ‘Best Urban Contemporary Album’, ‘Best Pop Solo Performance’ and ‘Best Traditional R&B Performance’.
With such accolades to her name and legions of fans willing to buy tickets and albums, when she publically shared her relationship with Myke Wright, Lizzo unveiled that her views on marriage have little to do with tradition.
During an interview with the esteemed magazine Vanity Fair, Lizzo said she went public with her relationship after she was photographed by a fan who spotted her out with Myke. Speaking fondly about him, Lizzo told the publication, “I’ve known him for over six years. He’s everything. We’re just in love. And that’s it.”
After her relationship went public, Lizzo also appeared on the radio show The Breakfast Club, where she crudely admitted that she doesn’t really believe in monogamy. She rhetorically asked the hosts, “Is monogamy a religion?”
She then continued, “People fight for monogamy like they pray to it every day. I am not a polyamorous person. I’m not in love with multiple partners. That is not me. He’s the love of my life. We are life mates.”
However, when asked if she had considered marriage, Lizzo responded, “Do I want to get married? If I wanted to start a business with him, I’d get married because that’s when your finances come together. I like weddings. I would like to have a wedding over a marriage.” She expressed that any marriage would be strictly for financial protection and a consolidation of wealth.
Lizzo has not been seen in public for a long time since the bullying allegations were made about her, but she still denies the claims made against her and has doubled down on her innocence, calling the lawsuits “a bogus, absurd publicity-stunt lawsuit.”
