Lil Yachty speaks on broke rappers: “I’m getting tired of y’all”

Lil Yachty is fondly known as the fun-loving, red-haired rapper who ruled SoundCloud during the mid-2010s. The ‘One Night’ singer developed a cult following on the music streaming platform when he was only 18 years old while he was still in college.

Utilising the production abilities of his dorm room friend (Burberry Perry), the Atlanta act has admitted he recorded his breakout single in a garage. Akin to his Atlanta counterpart, 21 Savage, the rapper) was a member of XXL’s 2016 class.

Since his arrival, Yachty has had a whirlwind of a career, toing and froing between relevance and irrelevance. However, since the launch of his podcast A Safe Place, which has hosted figures such as Sexyy Red and J Cole, he has entered the forefront of the culture again.

However, during an appearance on the popular web series Cool Kicks, the rapper recently took a shot at broke rappers and insisted that, in his opinion, some of the world’s biggest online influencers, streamers and YouTubers are making more money than the average emcee.

Lil Yachty has been outspoken about the importance of the internet for marketing and interacting with fans, but he has clashed with some of hip-hop’s older generation, who believe figures like him dedicate too much time to social media antics and little to creating high-quality music.

Irrespective of this, the Atlanta rhymer has been one of the pioneering artists concerning online engagement and was one of the first MCs to speak about the lucrativeness of Twitch streaming. In fact, he was among a handful of rhymers alongside Post Malone to have an account in the 2010s.

Since then the streaming platform mostly used by gamers has skyrocketed in popularity with figures such as IShowSpeed, Kai Cenat and Adin Ross gathering millions of views every month. During his appearance on Cool Kicks Lil Yachty ranted about how successful and cool he find Twitch streamers.

During his conversation, he stated, “Kai is my brother, shouts out to Kai. Shouts out Fanum, shouts out the whole AMP, shouts out f**kin’ Adin Ross! Yeah, for real. The young guys, the young bros, they goin’ crazy. Kai for sure got more money than, I think, 90% of rappers. 90% of rappers, I think Kai got more money than them. Adin too, sure!”

Cenat, who’s won awards for his streaming, broke the record for most Twitch subscriptions within a month last year. In just four weeks, he accrued over 300,000 subscribers, bringing him to a total of 7.3 million subscribers.

Although Yachty was one of a few rappers on Twitch during the 2010s, Soulja Boy claimed he was the first after hearing the ‘One Night’ emcee’s claims and made a rant video himself shouting, “I ain’t gon’ even cap, Lil Yachty, sit yo bitch-ass down, n*gga! Drake, you and Lil Yachty getting on my muthaf*cking nerves. Lil Yachty, you is a bitch n*gga. Fruity-ass n*gga. Painting yo muthaf*cking toe nails and sh*t.”

“I’m getting tired of y’all f*ck n*ggas,” he continued. “You wasn’t the first n*gga to do sh*t. I’m getting tired of y’all pu**y ass n*ggas, man.”
