Lil Yachty announced for ‘Saturday Night Live’ next month

Lil Yachty has been announced as a musical guest for an episode of the current season of Saturday Night Live.

The legendary programme is currently running in its 48th season with this weekend’s programme featuring the indie band The 1975 as musical guests and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega on hosting duties. Yachty is scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live on April 1st, and he’ll perform tracks from his new album, Let’s Start Here.

His latest album, Let’s Start Hereis a drastic change from his last projects, replacing the traditional hip-hop flows with progressive rock styles. In a recent interview with Billboard, Yachty mentions this being just the beginning, saying, “Fuck any of the albums I dropped before this one. I wanted to show people a different side of me — and that I can do anything, most importantly”.

Yachty went on to say that the time he became famous pigeonholed him in his mind, saying, “I was young and I didn’t really give a fuck, so I did do things that may have led people to the assumptions that I was a mumble rapper or a SoundCloud kid or I don’t appreciate the history of hip-hop. But to be honest, I’ve always been so much more than just hip-hop”.

He also poignantly said: “The shit I was making did not add up to the shit I listened to. I just wanted more. I want to be remembered. I want to be respected”.

The musician’s episode of Saturday Night Live on April 1st will be hosted by Quinta Brunson, who has never previously hosted the programme. Additionally, Yachty will also be making his debut in Studio 8H.
