Lil Yachty claims new album separates him from other “copying” artists

Lil Yachty has revealed that the reason he made a shift in his sound on his new album Let’s Start Here is because he wanted to separate himself from contemporary rappers that have copied him in the past. Yachty made the comments during a private listening event yesterday (Monday 23rd).

He said: “If we just gonna be honest, I mean, I had n***as that were copying the swag. I just felt like, ‘Okay, cool, everyone can do this, that’s fine. But I’m gonna show y’all what y’all can’t do.’ You feel me? That’s what’s on this other side.”

Yachty continued: “This album is so special and dear to me. I think I created it just because I really wanted to be taken serious as an artist, you know. Not just some SoundCloud rapper, not some mumble rapper. Not some guy that just made one hit.

Evidently, the new album means a lot to Yachty, and he wants to be recognised for his talents. “I wanted to be really taken serious because music is, like, everything to me,” he added. “I respect all walks of music, not just rap and hip-hop, everything. So I think I wanted to make something to show the world just how great it was to me.”

When the rapper released Let’s Start Here, he stressed to his fans that he felt that the album was a different kind of experience, not just a normal rap album. On Twitter, he wrote, “I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO LISTEN FULLY THROUGH THE FIRST TIME. DONT SKIP, DONT SHUFFLE. I NEED U TO HEAR IT HOW ITS INTENDED PLZ.”

It’s refreshing to hear a young artist have full confidence in their work and vision and not be merely willing to join the factory line of rappers coming out of America. Check out Lil Yachty’s new album below.
