Lil Wayne announces release date for ‘Tha Carter VI’ album

Lil Wayne has officially announced his new album, Tha Carter VI, which will be released on June 6th via Republic Records. It will be his first album in five years.

Weezy announced the news through a new advert for Cetaphil titled “We’re All a Lil Sensitive,” which makes light of missing out on the Super Bowl halftime spot to Kendrick Lamar. In the clip, Wayne supports people in sensitive moments, while nods to the album release date appear throughout. At one point, a sign on a door reads, “Do Not Disturb Til’ 06-06-25 CARTER VI.” The album is available to pre-save over at his website.

“What attracted me to this project was the chance to flip the script,” Wayne said about the commercial. “Showing a sensitive side isn’t a weakness—it’s a power. There’s nothing more real than turning those types of moments into a display of strength. This campaign made perfect sense to me. The world knew I was disappointed, but what they didn’t know was that it made me determined to deliver something way bigger.”

Wayne released his last album, Funeral, in 2020, featuring the likes of Big Sean, Lil Baby, Jay Rock, 2 Chainz, Takeoff, The-Dream, and XXXTentacion. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 139,000 units in its first week.

Before that was the last entry in the Carter series. Released in 2018, Tha Carter V also peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 with 480,000 units, earning the second-largest streaming week for an album ever. The album featured Kendrick, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Swizz Beatz, and others.

During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2023, Wayne revealed that he doesn’t know the differences between his Carter albums. “I’m going to be so honest with you: I don’t know Tha Carter III, Tha Carter II, Tha Carter from Tha Carter IV. And that’s just my God’s honest truth,” he admitted. “You could lie, you could ask me [about] such and such song, I wouldn’t even know what we talking about. So, it holds no significance to me at all.”

He added, “I work every day, bro — every single day. I believe that [God] blessed me with this amazing mind, but would not give [me] an amazing memory to remember this amazing shit.”
