Lil Wayne picks the best song of his career: The GOAT track

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz are two of the South’s most prominent artists, and the two recently collaborated on a new joint project. To promote their album, Welcome 2 Collegrove, the pair sat down with Complex for an episode of their YouTube series GOAT Talk, where they spoke about some music and industry figures they consider the “Greatest Of All Time.”

During their appearance on GOAT Talk, the pair reflected on their careers and unveiled what they believe to be their most outstanding songs of all time. The duo were asked about a range of questions about their personal favourites in music.

After the two legends had focused on 2 Chainz’s career, they turned to Wayne (real name Dwayne Carter), and when he was asked what his best track of all time is the Louisiana native responded, “Of course I’m gonna say I haven’t recorded it yet, but to give a better answer I’ll go with ‘A Milli.'”

‘A Milli’ is one of Lil Wayne’s most well-known tracks. Released in 2008, it was the second single of Carter’s sixth album, Tha Carter III. The freestyle song samples ‘Don’t Burn Down the Bridge’ by Gladys Knight & the Pips and was so popular it won a Grammy for ‘Best Rap Solo Performance’.

The song was critically acclaimed and praised by a number of different music publications, such as Rolling Stone, which ranked it as the tenth best song of 2008 and Blender, which placed it at number one. Produced by Mr Bangladesh, the producer disclosed that the song “created a lot of Lil Wayne fans. There’s a lot of Lil Wayne babies today that we see just based off ‘A Milli’ coming out!”

Following Carter’s revelation that ‘A Milli’ was his favourite song of all time, 2 Chainz stated, “My favourite is ‘Tha Mobb’. The intro to Tha Carter II, right? That’s one of my favourite beats ever!” The track is wildly underappreciated and, therefore, deserves its spot at the top of the mantle from 2 Chainz. ‘A Milli’ might be considered Wayne’s favourite number, but his deep cuts also have their spot.

Following this the two were also asked to name their favourite producers of all time. After pondering about the range of producers they had worked with over the years, Lil Wayne answered, stating, “I’m a say, Kanye!” Following Wayne, 2 Chainz decided, affirming, “Yeah, I got Mannie Fresh and Kanye West.”
