Lil Wayne vows to never play Super Bowl after snub to Kendrick Lamar
Lil Wayne has revealed he’ll never play the Super Bowl after missing out on the 2025 halftime show in New Orleans. Weezy claimed that, if asked, he’ll refuse to perform any shows in the future after Kendrick Lamar was picked instead of him in his hometown.
The ‘Lollipop’ rapper admitted he was gutted about the news, saying it “broke” him. In a new interview, he vowed not to accept any invites to future events.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said, “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.” Wayne opened up about making moves to headline the show, claiming someone from the NFL told him to be more in the public eye in the lead-up.
“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” he said. “If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing shit with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”
Wayne was convinced he had the halftime show in the bag based on what he was told. After he didn’t get the gig, he claims he received an apology from someone at the NFL. “We ain’t in charge,” they allegedly told him. Wayne continued, “All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved. So, I’m going to have to just settle with whatever they say.”
Jay-Z has famously overseen the halftime show since his Roc Nation company partnered with the NFL in 2019. However, Wayne is still on good terms with Hov despite the decision.
Wayne says he called Kendrick ahead of the Super Bowl to support him, but chose not to watch the performance. Instead, he was busy playing pool and went outside to smoke. “Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he said, taking a dig at K. Dot.
