Lil Wayne cancels Toronto and New York concerts

Lil Wayne’s concert in Toronto was postponed on August 11th despite the fact that fans were already at the venue. He has also since cancelled a show in New York.

The New Orleans native was due to perform at the outdoor Budweiser Stage in the Canadian city. When the shock announcement was made, fans had already flocked in their thousands in anticipation of watching him take to the stage.

According to a Reddit post from one fan, Wayne’s support act, Tyga, was due to perform 20 minutes after the cancellation message, and the headliner was due in little over an hour at 21:15pm. They claim the venue was around 40 per cent capacity, equating to around 6,500 people.

The message, which was put on a big screen, read, “Due to unforeseen illness, Wayne’s Toronto show tonight will be postponed. As his fans know, he loves putting on nothing short of the best performances for those who come out, and he was so excited for this one.”

The statement continued: “Please stay tuned for the new date coming soon. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date once announced.”

As it stands, Lil Wayne has yet to comment on the cancellation or offer a full explanation of the circumstances surrounding his illness.

Lil Wayne’s summer tour was also due to hit Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York, on August 12th, but sadly, this date has also been cancelled, according to Ticketmaster. The next date in his calendar is the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on August 14th, which is still scheduled to go ahead.
