Lil Nas X responds to criticism of collaboration with The Wiggles

Lil Nas X has made a response to the criticism he has faced over potentially collaborating with the Australian children’s music group The Wiggles. It was last week that The Wiggles shared a photo of them standing alongside Lil Nas X at the Falls Festival online.

The rapper is spotted in the photo holding one of the iconic colour t-shirts that The Wiggles frequently wear, and the group captioned the post, “new collab in the wind?”. However, this brought about widespread criticism of the group, particularly from parents of young children.

One wrote, “C’mon guys, you advocate for innocent children’s entertainment whilst simultaneously wanting to collaborate with a devil worshipper. This is such an odd post.” Another added, “Lil Nas X has put human blood into 666 pairs of his design for Nike shoes and is now planning to collaborate with The Wiggles.”

However, since then, Lil Nas X simply replied on his Twitter account, saying, “what’s the problem”. It was in 2021 that the rapper worked with the MSCHF Product Studio to design and create a series of Nike Air Max 97 trainers that were said to contain human blood. Nike subsequently began a trademark infringement lawsuit, and eventually, the trainers were recalled.

Last year, Lil Nas X had begun rumours surrounding his prospected collaboration with The Wiggles when he wrote online, “trying really hard to get The Wiggles to coheadline the tour with me. I will keep you guys updated.” The Wiggles then responded, claiming that they were “ready to wiggle with you”.

Lil Nas X had previously faced criticism over the Biblical imagery in the music video for his ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ track. The rapper responded to the backlash, saying, “I am an adult. I am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. That is your job.”
