Lil Nas X pleads not guilty to felony charges of assaulting police officer
Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty to felony charges following his arrest last week. The ‘Old Town Road’ rapper was taken into custody after being spotted walking around Los Angeles in his underwear.
Nas was arrested on August 21st and charged with three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.
In a statement, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J Hochman said, “Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.”
Nas faces up to five years in prison after being accused of charging at a police officer, with law enforcement responding to a call about a nude man wandering around in public.
According to USA Today, he was released from Van Nuys jail in San Fernando Valley on August 25th after posting the $75,000 bail set by the judge. During his arraignment, Nas was ordered to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
Nas was arrested before being taken to the hospital for a suspected overdose. Following the incident, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison said, “This morning, around 5:50am, officers responded to the 11000 block of Ventura Boulevard for a nude man walking in the street.
“Upon arrival, the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for Battery on a Police Officer.”
Nas was seen walking in his underwear and white cowboy boots on Ventura Boulevard. A viral video surfaced of the rapper catwalking down the street while talking to the person filming.
