Lil Durk plans to plead not guilty to murder-for-hire charge

Lil Durk is one of many rappers currently behind bars. However, the charges he faces are somewhat more serious than many of his hip-hop counterparts. Currently, the emcee, who is in the hands of the US Marshals Service, is facing charges for conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire resulting in death, as well as the use of, carry and discharge of firearms and a machine gun.

Still, despite the severity of the Chicago native’s charges, the rapper intends to fight them and will soon plead not guilty on all counts, according to TMZ. The ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’ rhymer is behind bars at the Federal Detention Center in Miami, but it has previously been reported that he is in “great spirits.”

Although he may not be feeling too bad, the prosecution has suggested that they are sure of a conviction hence the charge. Lil Durk’s decision to fight the claims is unsurprising as, if he is found guilty of the allegations made against him, he could face life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

Durk was arrested and charged on October 25th alongside five of his OTF affiliates. The arrest pertained to the 2022 murder of Saviay’a Robinson, who is the cousin of Atlanta lyricist Quando Rondo. The authorities have suggested that the murder was a retaliation to the killing of Chicago native and OTF member King Von in 2020.

According to a source who recently spoke with hip-hop media outlet TMZ, Durk is fairing well in prison due to his support system, which includes his longtime girlfriend India Royale, who was spotted at his court hearing on October 29th and his ten-year-old son Zayden.

Although the ‘Backdoor’ rhymer is still in Florida, it remains unknown when he will be transported to California to face the charge. Furthermore, it is unknown who will be representing him in court, and the stakes are unbelievably high.

Despite the allegations, there are many who are calling for his release, including fans, peers, and his loved ones. Even Afrobeats icon Burna Boy took to social media, writing, “The streets ain’t what it used to be. The old rules no longer apply. The way I see it, everybody is a civilian now… No more sliding, just sue your opps to court and take they money [Laughing Emoji].”

Although Lil Durk may be feeling okay due to his support system, the Chicago native could face the death penalty for his alleged actions if he is found guilty by prosecutors and little has been heard from his attorneys.

As of yet, there has been no trial date set.
